im pretty sure matte art is where you take a picture cut out some of it and replace it with what you want, if you watch anything of dylan cole he basicly takes bad looking movie scenes with most of the base the way they want of like where the characters are on and then redos all of the background scenery.

I think this painting was done using Photoshop CS3, an earlier version of Photoshop CS4 which is very similar. This type of painting is indeed called matte painting. If you Google "Adobe" you will find the site.I'm not sure what you mean by 3D, but if you are talking about actual 3D objects, there are modeling programs like Maya and 3D Studio Max that specialize in that sort of thing. Places like CGSociety and ConceptArt are really good sites to go to if you're interested in art like this. :)

The most recent version as of this posting Photoshop CS4, part of the fourth version of Adobe's Creative Suite (CS). Photoshop does not "come with" matte painting: it merely gives you the tools to do so. You use Photoshop's tools to make a matte painting. :) It takes a lot of practice, but if you work hard at it you can get to the level of skill shown in this video.Adobe usually has free trials of their products at their website. |
