i can understand matte painting on a still image.but how do you do matte paint on animation since there are so many key framing there?

@daveexperiment and also i am sure they use a program like boujou (a $10,000 program) for the 3D tracking considering all the panning

very cool video, ive recently started using Adobe after effects to do simple VFX but i gather you can do shots similar to these using it? i would interested to know what programs they used.
