When one company owns all the big software, innovation dies. Try playing chess with yourself, and you'll see what I mean.

I'm a Softimage user and tried very often to switch to maya & 3dsmax,but every time i tried, it ended up with the same sentence: "i dont knowwhy, but it doesnt fit into my brain, i dont get it !". MAYBE, if i had startedwith 3DSMax / Maya years before, i would now say the same about XSI.But from today, i have to say: i dont understand the UI of 3DSMax / Mayaand i'm breaking my fingers when transform, rotate, scale and select geometry ... it's just not compatbile with my brain ;)

This is so freaking funny, i really had to laugh at some sentences :DI dont like autodesk BUT i have to confess (admit), that softimage 2010was the BEST Softimage i ever had since Softimage 4. I dont know ifAutodesk developed it themself or if the "old developers" of XSI 7.0are still developing Softimage for Autodesk, but they did a good job !

@DarkArcz well man, i may be whinging about max and maya but, if you have never used them its good to learn them and know them, as any 3d job will likely be using them. the best feature in my opinion with maya is the transfer maps, it ensures that you never get "stuck" in a dead end when you want to re unwrap your character after you've already textured. definately check out zbrush if you haven't, i think they are the way of the future, they are eliminating the "technical" feeling of 3d

@nazworkshop Either way, I've still gotta pick up Maya sooner or later. The college Im planning to enroll into happens to teach using Maya as a medium, so I really don't have much of a choice in the matter. Still, if I can afford it, I'll pick up modo as a second option. I've had a dab with its evaluation version and watched a few tutorials, and I've gotta say, it certainly looks interesting.

@DarkArcz you can texture direclty on the model too which is quite awesome, but it's modelling tools are great in itself. |
